Where we came from

Established in 1946 by Richard M. Pugh.

He began a general law practice to serve the residents of Wamego, Kansas and surrounding communities. At that time, attorneys frequently wrote title opinions and handled real estate transactions. Title insurance was still a relatively new field and lacked the popularity of today. In 1975, Edward W. Pugh joined his father’s practice and continued handling real estate transactions. It wasn’t until the early 1980s that title insurance became the new industry standard and Wamego Title was created to serve the growing demands of buyers, sellers and banks. In the spring of 1984, Wamego Title wrote its first title insurance policy on triplicate paper on an electric typewriter. Since this first policy was drafted, Wamego Title has continued to evolve as a trusted title insurance adviser for real estate professionals, bankers, buyers and sellers.

In 2018, Wamego Title became Tallgrass Title in order to expand our geographical reach and better serve our clients.

As Tallgrass Title enters the fourth decade of service to the Northeastern Kansas region, the need to adapt to a fast-paced and increasingly regulated real estate world is ever present. A certified Best Practices title insurance agency, our staff is extensively trained in TRID and TILA/RESPA lending and closing requirements.
